Joseph Knapp received
his bachelors degree from Sonoma State University in
Humanistic/Transpersonal Psychology (1996), did graduate work at the
same university in Transpersonal Psychology, and studied for three
years at the Transpersonal Center of Holistic
Integration (1990s). His expertise in spiritual cultivation and
self-transformation has come about through over thirty years of deep
and concentrated spiritual practice rooted in Eastern Yogic and Tibetan
Buddhist traditions. He completed more than seven years of retreat
practice in India and Nepal and intensive study under the
guidance of
several spiritual teachers including Baba Hari Dass, Siddha
Mouni Baba, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and Dilgo Khyenste Rinpoche.
His primary focus of research and practice is personal ecology, the
ecology of the individual self in relationship to the body, the mind,
and their immediate environments. Mr. Knapp is thus
deeply concerned with alternative methods of healing the body
and mind. Since all personal ecologies are small parts of the
larger global
ecology, that too is a subject of his deep concern.

South Asian religion, philosophy, and literature. He has taught
courses in world religions and civilizations at various universities
and colleges in the Midwest. He is currently translating several works
from Bengali and Sanskrit into English. His recent work has been on the
influence of worldviews and meditative practices on ecological
understanding and practice.

suburbs of Chicago and pays close attention to the local ecology. He
